Unique and Special

Something I’ve been noticing about people lately is that we all seem to have some degree of desire for fame, or to stand out, or to be special or unique, or something else along those lines. Most desires that we might typically consider wrong or harmful are twisted versions of God’s original design. You see, God really did create us to be special and unique – He even created us in His own image (Genesis 1:26-27), which is as special as it gets! We weren’t necessarily intended to be famous among man, but in God’s eyes we are extremely special, for we are His beloved children! (Romans 8:15-17, 1 John 3:1, John 1:12-13) However, we can also be confident that we are unique as far as people go because of what it talks about in the middle of Psalm 139, how He has made us wonderfully complex, and how He watched every moment of our formation. The incredible intensity and intention described in this passage certainly indicates to me that instead of just making a bunch of copies in His image, God spent time intimately designing each and every one of us and forming us, our bodies and hearts, uniquely!
So I challenge you – how can you live differently in the knowledge that you are already special without needing the world’s approval?
