Loving God

Pick someone you really love. Would you do anything for them, because you loved them? You probably would. God has said in the Bible that if we love him, we will do what he says. “If you love me, keep me commandments.” (John 14:15). Many say that they love God, but they don’t follow his word, so do they really love him? According to the Bible they do not.

“And hereby we do known that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” (1 John 2:3-6)

If we love God, we will keep his commandments. This has nothing to do with salvation, after we are saved we are a child of God. Just as we would follow our parents’ rules, we should follow God’s rules. Doing this shows God we love him. Have you heard of the phrase “actions speak louder than words”? We can say one thing, but what we do through our actions shows where our heart truly is.

Some of the most recognized commandments would be the Ten Commandments which are:

Thou shalt have no other Gods before me.

Thou shalt not make any graven images, or bow down to them

Thou shalt not take the name if the LORD the God in vain

Remember the sabbath to keep it holy

Honour thy father and mother

Thou shalt not kill

Thou shalt not commit adultery

Thou shalt not steal

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor

Thou shalt not covet anything that is thy neighbors

of course these are not the only commandments God has. God has many commandments in the Bible. We can not keep all the commandments; that is impossible, but we should try our best, remember none of us are perfect. “For there is not a just man upon, the earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.” (Ecclesiastes 7:20) By doing our best, we are showing that we love God, and God is pleased by that. If we say we love God, we should also be keeping his commandments.

A Sunday school song that you may know, teaches us that obedience is the best thing to show that we believe. Doing works is not what gets us to heaven, but after we are saved we should love Jesus. He is the one that saved us, and by following God’s word we can display that!

OBEDIENCE

Obedience is the very best way to show that you believe.

Doing exactly what the LORD commands, doing it happily.

Action is key, do it immediately joy you will receive.

Obedience is the very best way to show that you believe.

We want to live pure, we want to live clean, we want to do our best.

Sweetly submitting to authority, leaving to God the rest.

Walking in the light, keeping our attitude right, on the narrow way.

For if we believe, the word we receive, we always will obey.
