Gospel (The Most Important Truth)

Writer: Refuge WritingRefuge Writing

Are you 100% certain that when you die, you will go to Heaven? If you are not you can be! The Bible says: “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” (1 John 5:13)

First, we have to realize that we are all sinners. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) A sin is when we break one of God’s commandments. If we steal, we have sinned because God said “Thou shalt not steal.” (Exodus 20:15)

Second, there is a payment for sin. “For the wages of sin is death;…” (Romans 6:23a) A wage is something we earn. If you went to work you would get your days wages. Or a common phrase we hear is “minimum wage.” What we earn for sinning is death, and not just the death everyone experiences, but death in hell. “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake, which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8) Everyone deserves to go to hell (which is the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone). The Bible doesn’t end here though, it goes on to give us the gospel, or good news.

Third, Jesus Christ paid for all our sins. Hell is not a place I want to go, and I’m sure you don’t want to go either. God in his great mercy gave us a way to go to heaven. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

What do you know about Jesus Christ? He is the son of God and he is God. He came down to earth, born of a virgin. He loved us, and that is why he came down and died for us, so that we don’t have to. He was beaten and mocked, then nailed to the cross, after he died he was buried in a tomb. While his body was in the tomb his soul was in hell for three days and three nights. On the third day he rose again. His resurrection is what is celebrated on Easter. On the cross he took the whole world’s sin upon himself, all the sins we have done and will do. He went to hell in our stead so that we don’t have to.

Fourth, Believe in Jesus. “…what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” All we must do to go to heaven is believe on Jesus Christ. It is called being saved, because we are being saved from an eternity in hell. We do not have to do any good works to be saved “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God

Fifth, It’s eternal. You cannot lose your salvation. “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” (John 10:28) Man refers to people, and since I’m a person I can’t do anything to pluck myself out of God’s hand. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) God is giving us a gift of eternal life, because it’s a gift he isn’t going to take it away from us,and because it’s eternal it lasts forever.

Sixth, You have to ask him for eternal life. “That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10: 9-10,13) You must pray to God and ask for this gift. A simple prayer can be: Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, I know I deserve to go to hell. I am only trusting in you. Please save me and take me to heaven when I die. Amen
